From the Tao to the Now – a presentation by Kelly Wen
One of the most elusive concepts in Chinese philosophy, the Tao, loosely translated as “the Way,” is shapeless and undefined, yet it governs the natural laws of the universe with its dualistic forces of the Yin and Yang.
From its earliest establishment, Taoist principles has both mystified and shaped the development of Chinese medicine, culture, economics and politics. Fast forward to today, these Taoist principles that have pervaded all facets of Chinese thought for millennia seems to be lost amidst China’s second rise from a near collapse to a new world order.
The Tao to the Now is a journey from ancient China to today, traversing 5,000 years of China’s fascinating yet turbulent history to see what has changed, but more importantly, what has remained the same.
Kelly Wen is a Professor of Economics at Pace University where she teaches econometrics and the economic development of China. Her teachings explore a broad range of topics including international trade, China’s real estate bubble, as well as current Chinese law and politics. She has been featured on exclusive interviews with ABC, NBC and CNN.
