Guest speaker James Best lead a vibrant discussion about Brand Positioning and Brand Disposition at PABC October Meeting.

James Best currently serves as Founder & Chief Growth Officer, TBG Consultancy; Managing Director, Harvard Investors Group; and Lecturer, Columbia University’s Masters of Sports Management Program. James’ roles have him active in developing strategic growth initiatives, evaluating client and marketing asset, and consulting to brands on building identity and implementing new initiatives.

Prior to his current roles, James was Head of Business Development for Global Advertising Agency TBWA\Chiat\Day where he led new business and managed relationships with some of the world’s leading brands including Apple, Nissan, Michelin, Accenture, McDonalds, and Pepsi. His role also included strategic growth planning, agency capability development and the integration of global agency best practices across 106 global offices.

Before joining TBWA, James spent time in Private Banking at Merrill Lynch where his group focused on evaluating client assets, designing new initiatives, and optimizing revenue activities to determine value for private equity acquisition targets.

Throughout his twenty plus year career James has also held several senior sport marketing roles, including Front Office Executive – National Basketball League, Governing Body Director –Basketball Australia, and Organizing Committee Member – 2000 Sydney Olympics as well as the Australian Grand Prix – Formula One Racing, and the FIBA World Championships.

James’ career began after playing and coaching professional basketball, an experienced and well-traveled marketing and strategic growth professional, his career has encompassed leading strategic initiatives, effectively managing resources, and increasing profitability through brand building, strategic partnerships, and organizational capability development.

James holds a bachelor’s degree in Marketing from Providence College where he was a member of Rick Pitino’s Final Four Basketball Team, and a master’s degree in Sports Management from Columbia University.

James currently teaches Marketing Strategy, the Globalization of Sports, and Advanced Sports Marketing & Media at Columbia University and has consulted to the University on External Affairs and Strategic Growth initiatives.
